My youngest grandchild (my son't first child and only a few months old) has been in hospital overnight in the UK. Seems he had some sort of spasm, threw up everywhere and his lips went blue for a while. His blood pressure shot up and so the doctors are keeping him in overnight for observation. We're obviously all a bit worried.

Mother tells of car-jacking terror

A young mother has spoken of her terror as she and her daughter were car-jacked and robbed at knifepoint outside a shopping centre.

Police say it was a desperate crime, taking place in broad daylight outside the Melton shopping complex, west of Melbourne.

The attack has left the woman, known as Carly, shaken and afraid to go home.

The 25-year-old was strapping her three-year-old daughter into the back seat when she was forced into the car by a man wearing a balaklava.

"He took all my control away," Carly said.

"You're meant to be able to protect your kids and I couldn't.

The offender held a knife to her daughter's chest and demanded cash.

With just $20 in her purse, Carly was then forced to drive home for more.

After a terrifying few minutes, the man dumped them by the Melton pool and took off in the car.

"I don't care about the car, I just want him in jail. He knows where I live," she said.

Police say it may have been a desperate act committed by a drug addict.

"At some stage there he seemed to, for want of better words, tear up," Carly said.

"He had some tears in his eyes. He may have been feeling guilty for his actions."

Car hi-jackings seem to be becoming more frequent of late.....whilst I realise the story above probably doesn't apply in this case....I am wondering how many of us here on the forum actually lock the door of our vehicles when we drive off ... .....

My car doors automatically lock when we reach 50kph, and don't unlock until we turn off the ignition, unless it is manually done. Also our keyless entry unlocks just the drivers door on the first push, the rest on the second, another safety device.

My cars are so old that no one would want to Hi-jack them. Another reason not to have a newer fancy car. Hope the cops shoot this guy.

Thankfully he was arrested yesterday.

Quote
POLICE have arrested a man suspected of being the thief who created a wave of terror in Melbourne by carjacking and robbing women.

Police today said the man was captured in Tullamarine just before 5pm following a high-speed pursuit. They talked him into surrendering via a stolen mobile phone that left switched on in the car.

Good one on the bikies who stepped in to help
Quote
Service station attendant Daryl Price hid her inside the servo's secure area and immediately called police.

The impatient bandit drove up to the door of the servo, but quick-thinking Mr Price enlisted the help of three bikies, members of the Rebels Motorcycle Club, who were in the forecourt.

They surrounded the bandit's car as he was about to get out. On seeing the menacing bikies, the bandit sped off.

Just goes to show that not all bikies are as bad as they are painted to be

This might sound like a silly question... and I might have missed the point... but how does locking the car when it's in motion prevent a hijacking??

I occasionally lock the car... but usually when I'm at a set of lights in a strange area... or (more and more)...  when I stop at a servo to fill the car with fuel! I've heard of a number of cases where people have gone off to pay for fuel and found their belongings stolen by opportunistic thieves when they've returned.

Since having kids I've never left the keys in the car ignition when I've gone to pay (even when they aren't there!!) and bearing in mind it only takes a click of the remote locking system anyway I figure it can't hurt... tho I *am* aware that the chances of being one of those who get robbed is pretty limited! :)

Many carjackers in Sydney have handguns... and run into the back of your car, making you stop, "bump and rob", then attack you...pistol-whip you and steal your car.
Some shoot at your car making you hand them the keys, then bash you and drive away.

I think his point was that he wants the legal right to carry a gun.

I disagree...I think HIS (IE Bambu) point is along the same line as Kim... those without criminal intent don't carry guns... whereas a number of the undesirable folk DO carry guns.

The cops and the judiciary should arrest and jail for at least 10 years any thugs carrying illegal guns...20 years for using guns in carjackings!

We never used to have a carjacking every few days, or at all.

Van rammed in gunpoint car-jacking
Posted Wed Apr 16, 2008 9:22am AEST

Map: Ryde 2112
Police are looking for three men who allegedly used a gun to car-jack two people in north-west Sydney last night.

Police say two men, believed to be in their 20s, were travelling in a van along Devlin Street in Ryde just after 8:30pm (AEST), when a sedan carrying three men hit their vehicle from behind.

Both drivers pulled into nearby Tucker Street to exchange details, when one of the people from the sedan pulled out a gun and the trio stole the van.

The victims were taken to Ryde Hospital with minor facial injuries.

Police are seeking three men described as looking Mediterranean or Middle Eastern.

The first is described as being about 180 centimetres tall, with a large build, short dark hair and brown eyes.

He was wearing a red jumper, knee-length dark shorts and sneakers.

Police say the second man is thin and about 170 centimetres tall. He was wearing a dark, long-sleeved T-shirt and dark pants with a white stripe down each side.

The third man is also described as being about 170 centimetres tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper and a black beanie.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Gladesville Police on (02) 9879 9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Carjacking: shot fired into BMW ARJUN RAMACHANDRAN
July 28, 2009

A shot was fired into a BMW during a carjacking in Sydney’s east last night.

A 35-year-old man was driving the 2006 silver BMW on Malabar Road, Maroubra, about 9.40pm when he was approached by two men in a black sports car.

The men - wearing balaclavas and gloves - got out of their car and threatened the BMW driver with a gun, police said.

A shot was fired into the back seat of the BMW, and the driver got out of the car.

One of the men then got in the BMW, the other returned to the sports car, and both the cars drove off, police said.

Man carjacked in Kellyville
newsCrime08 Feb 10 @ 11:48am

POLICE are appealing for information after a carjacking in Kellyville last night.

About 9.30pm, a 48-year-old man was driving a black 1992 Nissan Silvia coupe east on Wrights Road, Kellyville. Also in the vehicle was the man’s 21-year-old son.

When in the vicinity of Kellyville shopping centre, a vehicle described as a black Jeep containing four people tailgated the car before overtaking them and swerving in front of them causing the car to stop.

One man got out of the Jeep and approached the 21-year-old man, who had stepped out of the Nissan, and punched him several times in the head.

Another man from the Jeep approached the 48-year-old, who was still in the driver’s seat. Demands were made and the man stated he was in possession of a firearm.

The man then got in the car, with the other man getting back in the Jeep and driving away.

The incident was reported to The Hills Local Area Command later that night.

We used to have a handguns in our bank teller boxes...before glass barriers.

We used to have pistol practice at the gun range.

I never felt safer.

At least we could fight back if our lives were threatened.

The armed thugs used to lock staff in the strongrooms...frightening experience.
They also used to point guns in our faces during armed holdups.
You didn't know if you were going to die or not.
Staff members' lives were ruined.

Time the armed thugs and armed carjackers were shot...by the cops preferably.
You get one life. What you do with it, and what is done to you...you have to live with that.
