My youngest grandchild (my son't first child and only a few months old) has been in hospital overnight in the UK. Seems he had some sort of spasm, threw up everywhere and his lips went blue for a while. His blood pressure shot up and so the doctors are keeping him in overnight for observation. We're obviously all a bit worried.

We don't need the rain.
« on: September 05, 2010, 04:41:06 PM »
We shall have to tell the weatherman up in the sky not to bother sending  any more of  the rain which is currently inundating Victoria   ...which by the way is flooding the rivers , and filling dams, watering gardens and generally doing what rain does in this land of drought and flooding rains.
The reason we don't need it...Brumby's building a desal plant.
Who needs rain?

Building desal plants is another stupid and expensive idea of Labor govts.

They cost a fortune to build, and a big huge fortune to run.
Look how much power they use, and how little water they produce.

Water tanks on homes etc is the answer...catching and holding the rainwater...for gardens, washing cars etc.

See any oceans in rural Vic?

It's utterly tragic to watch this rain pour down, knowing most will just run off to the ocean.
In the last 13 years that we have been in drought, a couple of dams could have been built. Not only would we be set for the next 100 years, especially with the technology of to-day, with  pumps  for example, which could be used to divert water at times to places where needed........but think of the side benefits, such as employment.

Exactly!

It is tragic.

More rain falls on Sydney than on London.

Huge pipes roar as the Sydney stormwater flows into the sea.

It should be flowing into huge storage tanks.

...just down the coast a bit the govt spent $2 billion + building a desal plant, and dumps all the salt back into the bay/sea...causing marine environment problems, according to some experts.

It only provides a small percentage of Sydney's water supply...and is a total waste of money.
The money would've been far better spent buying water tanks for residents, some each year.

Thank the idiot greens for making it impossible to build dams allowing us to save it for when we need it

Yes Australia is a dry country but it has more than enough water falling on it to meet requirements so long as it is managed correctly & that includes some massive storage facilities that will flood areas of land true but we cant drown a tree for fear of the imbecile green voter backlash.
I heard the other day and this just about sums up the mental capacity of armchair greenies, A lady was sitting in a public park blowing bubbles with her young son when she was accosted bu some daft bimbo greenie demanding she stop immediately lest the and i quote "poisonous chemicals leech into the soil"
Thats the mentality we are dealing with Idiocy fused with ignorance and driven by emotion!

I agree that Australia's approach to water management over recent decades has been pathetic. The availablity of water is of critical importance to our economic development.

This underlies the need for new development areas to incorporate:
1 - Underground storage tanks for watering
2 - Mandatory Rainwater Tanks onto new houses, plumbed in to Mains water as a primary source
3 - Financial Incentives to re-engineer homes to having Rainwater Tanks..and No I do not mean a paltry 400-1000 litre tank.
4 - Business development areas to be required to the same, In fact, more l to incorporate green cooling systems into their building design, which n fact, is not a bad idea to look towards with housing developments

State and LGA Policies are the only way to address this, it does not fall into being a Fed issue

The problem is Minx that everyone is terrified of tank water. Full of disease and filth.

If they had ever seen a dam get dredged as I have they would change their mind quick-smart...

The problem with that Crank, is that they do not know about Tank Filtration systems

When I was a kid, it was a sock...water ran thru it into the bucket
When I was at Kellyville, it was plumbed to the kitchen sink - filter was a nylon/carbon thingy
When I was in Kapunda - it was a sock/carbon filer and straight to my sink

The 'scare' stories are put out by people who stand to lose

When I built my first house in 1990 I wanted to put in tanks and local council in their wisdom told me the house would not pass final inspection If i installed rain water tanks. No doubt the same people have changed their tune but are still making policy decisions of the same quality on other issues !
